BUYER: DEFENSIVE

Platinum has recovered 14.8% from the July low of $1,539.60/oz to $1,767.70 (Aug 5), but remains 39.6% below the January ATH of $2,925. The structural deficit story is intact — WPIC forecasts a fourth consecutive annual shortfall of 297 koz, and above-ground stocks project to fall below three months of demand cover by year-end 2026. However, the macro headwinds that drove the 47% correction (hawkish Fed, DXY strength, risk premium unwind from the Iran ceasefire) are not yet resolved. The market is at an inflection point: tight physical fundamentals provide a floor near $1,540, but a sustained recovery above $1,800 requires a new catalyst — either the next WPIC report (Sep 9) confirming a deepening deficit, or a macro shift (Fed pivot, DXY easing). The risk-reward at current levels favors patience over aggressive accumulation.
